Challenging the accepted bounds of self expression and exploring the limitations of self creation.

Expression visualized as text on the skin,

taking the place of clothing, makeup, tattoos or piercings.

Imagine a world where our innermost values are displayed directly on our surfaces.

To wear my thoughts, feelings and beliefs on my body is an exercise of extreme vulnerability, subverting society’s superficial preconceptions around image and identity.

The limitations of self creation.

Process is challenging, there are blind spots and blank spaces where the dominant hand cannot reach, leaving behind smudges, flaws, and reminders of human capability.

It would be easier to have others write on me, define me, neater, more pleasing.

Outcome is satisfying,

with patience and training, the lines arrange more neatly, the spaces full and the composition moves closer to balance.
