A visual journey through the works of South African artist & designer Cailin Alcock
As an aspiring artist—creating since the moment I could hold a paintbrush and pursuing art more seriously in high school and college—I have identified three modes of creation.
Automatic: Either moving the hand over the page in seemingly random movements, or visualizing an image formed in the mind without a prompt, and then deriving meaning from the result.
Intentional: An emotional response to external stimuli, communicated visually.
Decorative: Purely for aesthetic purposes, to match the drapes and throw pillows, usually motivated by popular trends.
With this Visual Journal, I hope to mostly explore the former two.
